The Vancouver Project
Outside Scotland, the largest emigrant Scottish Gaelic communities are to be found in North America and Canada. Here, interest in the Gaelic language is growing, particularly amongst the communities of the Western seaboard. This has resulted in the establishment of several Gaelic arts festivals in this region, celebrating the common cultural heritage of Scotland and Canada.
The committee which oversees the Vancouver Mod, the largest of these festivals, has extended an invitation to Cluicheadairean Dhun Eideann to contribute to the 2003 festival.
Cluicheadairean Dhun Eideann will visit Vancouver for ten days from 4th to 13th May 2003, during which time group members will stage a variety of Gaelic and Scottish related activities - Vancouver Events & Workshops
This innovative project offers a valuable opportunity to strengthen cultural links between two Scottish and Gaelic communities. It is envisaged that our visit, coupled with the present interest in genealogy, will encourage reciprocal visits from Canadian individuals and groups to Scotland.
